SEND ME BACK, RIGHT NOW!

Let's just be honest with each other, here. Send me back to Sundance already, because that crap was freaking AWESOME! I was super nervous about my travel companions because who knows what sort of freaky habits come out with people you semi-know. Nothing weird at all. I bunked with The Bish and there were no problems there (unless you count my snoring, which hopefully she didn't hear, but I'm quite confident that she did... oh well).

I saw some celebs. One would include CHUY!!! He was the only one that I was really excited about. I mean after seeing him, who needs Simon Rex, Philip Seymour Hoffman, or Renee Zellweger. Talk about D list.

I'm back to booking extras this week for a low budgie called 'Six Month Rule'. Directed by the same dude that did 'Weather Girl', if you happened to catch that one. It was pretty cute, I guess.

Well, I hope you all didn't miss me too much... xoxo

Super

I started working last week on a new project called Super. The show stars these actors whose identities will be protected as per the Confidentiality Agreement that I signed:

Today was the first day of Principal Photography and oh my God I almost froze my yams off out there and I'm not joking. When I got back in my car, my legs/feet were numb. Never again. I thought I'd be nice and helpful and go out there to set and kind of spy on the situation for the first day, all along appearing eager, bright-eyed and bushy tailed. Also to answer any questions and whatnot. Never again. I'm signing people in and leaving.

So anyway, when I said that I went back to the car and thawed... this is the car that I went back to:

This is Polly and she is my new Prius. (Gladpys was struck back in October by a raging maniacal teenager and totaled, God rest her soul. She was a good car and she would still be kicking it amongst the SB if it weren't for that hair-lipped idiot. Sigh. Not that I don't LOVE Polly. It's just that I don't LOVE that car payment every month. But, she is environmentally friendly and I have also convinced myself that I am now way better than most people, thus tying into the Smug stereotype of fellow Prius-owners.) Hopefully she does me right.

Now, back to casting strippers and chickenhawks...

Merry Christmas To Me!

Well, I am planning and have halfway purchased this year's Christmas gift to self. (For the record, last year's was a leather jacket). I am going to SUNDANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the shows that I worked on last year (Skateland) is going to be in the competition this year and well, why not take a trip and go see it there along with thousands of my peers (and Robert Redford for sure)? So, I will be. I'll be accompanied by a few fellow film, yet not film, co-workers on this trip and I am pumped! You ask, "Kate, will you go skiing whilst there?" I hate to burst your bubble but no, I am not a skier. I prefer toddies in a warm lodge than riding the lift back down the mountain, as I have previously been known to do.

Well that is today's news brief. Check back soon for more updates.

Low Moment of My Day

Yeah, so. The low moment of my day yesterday was coming back from running an errand to this refrigerator for me to clean.

That substance at the bottom is apple cider vinegar. It smelled just as good as you can imagine. Happy Friday.

Highlight of My Day

So, got to stand very near to Two Face today. Although I didn't get the photo of myself kissing him on the cheek that I would have liked, I did manage to sneak this while he watched playback at the Video Village:

I decided to make a photo montage of a gas station explosion that I got to witness this morning. The show was blowing up the run-down gas station at the corner of Texas and Linwood in Shreveport. It was doused with 160 gallons of diesel fuel then lit on fire. Here we go:

Before:

A, what they call, 'picture car':

Actual explosion:

Smoke and stuff:

An after shot (note the 'dead' body):

That was the zenith of the day. The 'Battle' leaves town tomorrow to head to Baton Rouge until Christmas. I'll be moving on to bigger and (hopefully) brighter things.

Halle It Is

Thanks for voting, Halle is the new name of the Berry.

Let's see, what's new? I went to the Revel this weekend. I bought a bunch of artwork as gifts and then a few things for my personal repertoire. (I made the mistake of wearing flip flops in the rain and therefore my feet turned out like so:

However, I got some of this:

So I'm okay with the dirty feet sacrifice. They (my feet) are all clean now, DON'T JUDGE ME. WE'VE ALL MADE THESE MISTAKES BEFORE!!!!!!!!!)

Um, I'm about to wrap up this movie that I've been working on so diligently (and I fervently apologize for being so blog-neglectful) so, hopefully I can get a couple of days off before I start working elsewhere. I think I'm going to pick up a part-time gig in an interiors place until the next show starts... now doesn't that sound fun?!

I have a wedding coming up next month for my friend LJ and am going to be required to get some sort of dressy situation for the rehearsal dinner. Being that I am a fair-skinned redhead, there are only a few colors that I can wear. So, that being said, this week's poll is going to be pretty lame, but what color dress should I attempt to find? Keep in mind that I usually stick to a 4 color wardrobe palette being black, brown, red and green, yet I am okay with overstepping this boundary and going in another shade of those families, with the exception of yellow, pink and lavender.

Things I Do When I Should Be Working

I rolled up to my bank last week to deposit some funds and reached for the tube and this is what I got:

Way to get festive with it, Regions. Any way that a financial institution can throw some hot pink into my banking gets a gold star from me.

Well, this week I'm working a 6th day. For those of you who don't know what that means, I have to work six days in a row this week. And next week. Kate is not happy.

So, my goal is to pump as much free stuff out of this as possible. Step 1: Get headlight replaced by Teamsters on set:

It only took 5 of them and 45 minutes to figure it out. Also, I got a free tank of gas whilst I was here. Step 2 is a new inspection sticker, thus why I had to get the headlight changed. We will see how that goes. Step 3 is going to be either a free haircut or free clothes from wardrobe.

I severely apologize for the lack of updates, but it's hard to steal away 5 minutes to collect my thoughts. However, working on Saturdays has remedied this, since not a lot goes on and also the crew is working nights and I'm working days. So thank God that they are all asleep and not around to bother me...yet.

New (Belated) Poll of the Week!

The Labor Day poll ended with most of you saying that you labored in one way or another. I was thinking of other labor options and one lady who didn't have to labor at all for her newest 'bundles of joy' is this lady:

Yeah SJP up here had some surrogate random have her two twin babies. This got me to thinking about SATC and how these ladies were laboring on Labor Day because SATC2 just started filming in NYC. We've never had the token "Which SATC Character Are You?" poll, so here we go. I've decided that I'm a mixture of these two:

I think Miranda because I'm pretty cynical when it comes to pretty much everything, and I picked Samantha because of her wit and ability to have fun (not because of her sluttiness... but you can take it however you want). So which SATC character are you?

Madness

Since the last time I blogged, I have been crazy busy. By crazy busy I mean that I've been running around so much with errands and sweating my yams off on set and back and forth and what not, that I've even lost 5 lbs... maybe 6 (I'm going by clothes size, not by scale since I don't have one... Woot for Skinny Bridesmaid). I've finally gotten the 10 minutes that I need to write a blog, even though I have no direction, I just basically wanted to write and say that I'm not dead (since I KNOW you were all wondering).

Friday, I got these from my bosses:

On the card it said that I am underappreciated (amen) for all the work that I do. How sweet! I accidentally left them on my desk over the weekend (after I bolted to the door to get out of here and over to the Stray Cat) so this is them in their wilted state, which is still pretty good. Also, its a crappy pic because I was trying to be all nonchalant in the office with it.

Oh yeah. So, the same celebrity that requested the carseat was a MAJOR C.U. Next Tuesday to me today on set and I wanted to knock her tooth out like Carrie did on SATC when 'said actress' was chasing Carrie down the stairs and then fell after she caught Carrie in Big's apartment. (That sounded more confusing than I think it really was.) Anyway...Ugh... made me so mad. Enough of my huffing and puffing, I suppose. I'm going to update the Poll of the Week soon so take it and have a wonderful day after the holiday!

Is This A Southern Baptist Thing?

As I was on my way to the office on Friday, I had to bust out a U-Turn in order to capture this on film:

This is a little hard to read due to the weird sunlight angle. It says "Pastor and Wife Love Day - Aug 23, 2009". What does this mean? Do Missionary Baptist's not celebrate Valentine's Day? Why does the entire church celebrate the Pastor and Wife's love? Is it for their anniversary, perhaps? Is this a ploy to get a free lunch after church? This confuses me. Could someone please clear this up for me.

New Poll of The Week!

Last week's poll of the week closed with a whopping six of you saying that you never read the Babysitter's Club series because you were outside playing with your friends. Sad Kate. Oh well, at least some of you voted otherwise. So Dawn Schafer (as predicted) came in 2nd place with 4 votes. Since six of you never read the series and the remaining 11 of you voted for Dawn, Claudia, Mary Anne and Stacey, surely the ones who voted remember the Babysitter's Club Movie, right? Well, this little lady played Dawn Schafer:

Who could forget Larissa Oleynik from 10 Things I Hate About You and Alex Mack? Whatever happened to that girl? I've heard many interesting stories lately from a current co-worker of mine and a former co-worker of hers from when they worked together on TTIHAY. She seems like she would be a really cool girl. I.E. Someone that I would hang with. Speaking of TTIHAY, when Googling an image of Larissa as Dawn, this image came up which is strange since I'm not sure that Julia Stiles would have ever had any connection with Dawn Schafer, unless she is one of the 4 that voted for her in my poll:

Small world, huh? Well since we were talking about TTIHAY (and not talking about how it was one of the first films to feature Heath Ledger in all of his hotness), let's have this week's poll discuss great movies of the 90's and which ones were our favorites! So, go vote and have a wonderful Thursday, friends!

Flashback Tuesday

For today's Flashback Tuesday, I thought I would share the story of when I met the black man in my life. Approximately two years ago, I thoroughly perused the Internet/newspaper/Thrifty Nickel in hopes to find the perfect companion for my life. I was sure that having this black man would change my life for the better, so that instead of never being at home, eating out, staying out til the wee hours of the evening, etc. I would stay home and nurture my newest love who depended on me for everything in his life.

So, one day, after much scouring, Sue found him from a breeder/show dog compound in Baton Rouge. The next day, we went and picked him up at a gas station parking lot off I-49 (shady) and then he was mine!!!! Everyone, meet Mr. Pruitt:

This photo was from the very first time that I ever got to meet him. After we picked him up from Shady Gas Station, we took him to Keithy's office for him to get checked out (Keithy is a veterinarian, you know). He checked out perfectly and I took him home and have loved him ever since.

Sad point of the story... Once I finally got him home and living with me and all, my job status changed from regular to movie, which means, that I went from working 8.5 hours in a day to 12+ and I didn't think it was fair to leave Pru Pru at home alone by his lonesome, locked away in a pet carrier for more than half of the day while I was at work. I tried taking him to my parents' house before work every day and then picking him up at night, but this got very tiresome (also, at this point, my parents decided to move from centrally located Line Avenue to basically another country known as Gloster which is even further away than Keithville).

Once they moved, I was out of options. A daily pet sitter was way too expensive so he went to live with my parents. So much for responsibility I suppose. I visit him often and am always so happy to see him, but I miss him so much. One day, when I get a house with a yard (and hopefully a doggie door that Pru will use), I am determined to get him back. In the mean time, he will live in harmony with Sue and Keithy's 4 other little dogs (i.e. Pru's aunts and uncles): Mia, Cookie, Jack and Millie. He gets to play outside in a big yard all day, roll around in dirt, and visit with the aunts and uncles. I think he likes that a lot more than the pet carrier so the end of that story is a happy one. Happy Flashback Tuesday, everyone!

Finally, A Year Later

Last summer, Nancy and I were unemployed and laid around on the couch all day and prayed for people to call us to tell us there was work. One day we got really desperate so, we decided to be extras in the only movie that was being shot in town called "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell", which was based on the book of the same name by Tucker Max. Anyway, we decided to be extras in order to feed our wine habit and also to feel like we had a purpose in life, and to do something other than roll quarters and check out free movies from the library.

So, the trailer to IHTSBIH finally came out and here it is:

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell in HD

I know that a few of you agreed to be extras during that shoot as well (cough, Sass), so you may be interested in seeing if you are in it. I am a little disappointed because it looks A LOT like The Hangover, but hopefully it is funnier. I also hope that by the time that IHTSBIH is released that people will have forgotten about The Hangover and will go see it anyway and make it a Shreveport success! Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that some of the scenes were filmed in the COB!!! Yay for Cobblestone making it on the Hollywood Map! Anyway, Happy Wednesday everyone and try not to be offended by some of the racial jokes.

Of All The Times To Get Sick

Well, I went to Ruston on Saturday and hung out and had the best time with the girls, however, I woke up Sunday morning with a flaming throat, stopped up right nostril and stopped up right ear. BOOOO! Normally I wouldn't give a crap, but I have a VERY IMPORTANT job interview tomorrow at 12:30PM and have got to be at 100%. I brought back a bucket of peaches for Sue, but they have so much Vitamin C that I've been devouring them like cough drops. So, for those of you who are the praying kind, pray that the peaches, and this works:

This is a Neti Pot. You pour a nasal rinse packet into the pot, fill it up with warm water, then point in one nostril, while hanging your head over the sink, and the saline solution drains out the other nostril. Some people get squeamish at the thought, but if you are desperate enough (like me), you will do anything to feel better. It honestly works. Like a sinus massage or something.

So anyway, the weekend was super fun. I need to get this job. I won't say what I am interviewing for because it involves a Confidentiality Agreement. But it's really good. MUST FEEL BETTER!!!!

El Chico and More

So this weekend we had John's Birthday Extravaganza Part Deux beginning with a dinner at his favorite Mexican restaurant in Shreveport: El Chico. There was an amazing turnout of friends that showed up... about twenty... and it ended up being a good time.

When we left The Boy, (after John decided to take his sombrero with him) we headed over to sing some karaoke. On the way over, these two got engaged!!!! Congratulations Joey and Megan Hynes!!! So exciting!

After John and Rex finished singing "The American Trilogy" Mrs. Scoggin showed up.

Shortly after we visited with Jamie, we headed home, but not before snapping a photo with the Sensational Six (Carie and Trav were missing from the Elite 8, so we had to do with the six).

Saturday, John took me to the amazing Don Juanz, famous for their Fresh Mex menu. The fish tacos sound disgusting but are anything but that. If you live in the Shreveport/Bossier Metroplex and haven't tried Don Juanz, I suggest you do. You will never look at Mexican food the same. http://www.donjuanz.com/

Saturday evening, John wanted to watch the UFC fight. So he and his coaching buddies got together to watch it, while their pregnant wives and myself (neither preg or a wife) sat downstairs and visited. Well, let me just say that I heard enough in a few hours about pushing a baby out of a V, episiotomies, enemas, lamaze class, baby bedding, breast pumping, nipple cream, pediatricians, gas, cravings, morning sickness, strollers, cribs, due dates, NICU's, hospitals, changing rooms, baby monitors, registering, and rice cereal to do me for my entire life. No thank you, babies.

So that's the weekend recap. (Oh! And we saw Bruno. Not as funny as Borat. So, don't waste your time or money.) Big Brother last night was eh. I'm ready for it to get ugly!

Things That Should Be Surprising, But Aren't

Last night John and I decided to eat at a semi-local establishment for dinner because I got a $5 coupon in the mail. We love finding opportunities to be cheap. So we pull into the parking lot directly next to this:

I feel as though The Diddle Martins have already touched on this topic, but I figured, it is semi-rare that you get an opportunity to get up close and personal with one of these train wrecks, so why not talk about it? Behold, the "Spaghetti O's" car. Please take note at how detailed these people are with their Mazda 626. The rims:

It is as though the wheels are covered in tiny Spaghetti O's that have escaped from the can. On the trunk is the bar code. You know, in case you want to scan it:

Also if you really look hard there is the phone number to the company that painted this car in this fashion... you know, if you are interested in transforming your Sister Civ from a natural Taffeta White into the Suave Strawberry Shampoo car. One last photo, the Nutritional Information Sunroof:

That should wrap up all of the classiness from the pre-dinner parking lot experience. After we ate our fill of chips and queso, we decided that we should make it an official date night and go see The Hangover (warning, rant coming):

I was pretty disappointed with it, to be perfectly honest. I don't know if I didn't like it because it was super predictable, or because people had spoiled parts of it that were 'so hilarious' so I knew what was coming, or if I was trying to figure out the whole time why everyone in the world seemed to think it was the funniest movie of all time. I thought that Heather Graham did a good job and that's about it. I laughed at the credit photos, but I left the theater thinking, Really? That's it? It might not have helped that I saw it with John who was cynical about it based on all of the hype.

Well, I got a surprise when I got home, that's for sure. Evel Dick commented on my blog about Big Brother! I couldn't believe it. It may very well be an impostor, but since it says that he is in the agriculture business on his blog profile, that makes me think it's for real. So, Flashback Tuesday turned out to be an abnormally banner day!

Caricatures

I'm so ready to leave this town that I could pee my pants (possibly because I've drank a lot of water recently in order to become Skinny Bridesemaid). So, as I'm wasting time during my last hour of work, I decided to peruse some photos from my Photobucket account. This is what I came across:

Myself, Sass and Steph's Simpson's caricatures (Stephanie's should have darker hair now by the way)! Steph made these for us when the Simpson's Movie came out a couple of years ago. Just thought I'd share.
Seriously, thirty more minutes and I'm free!!!!!

The Time I Almost Crapped My Pants

Back whenever I was a VIP in the film industry, I had, perhaps the most important meeting of my career. Important at least to a 25 year old girl who was addicted to Perez Hilton. I got the call that a film titled "Three Stories About Joan" was going to be filming in Shreveport and that we got the job to do the extras on it. Neat, I thought... but ugh, what a drag. I hope this doesn't royally suck because it's more work to have extras as minors because of all of the extra paperwork (labor permits, video releases, etc.) that is involved. Not to mention, STAGE PARENTS ARE ANNOYING!!!!

The silver lining to this story is that I was told that I, along with two of my other co-workers, were to have a one-on-one (or one-on-three) meeting with this person:

Bruce Willis (or Bruise) as I affectionately called him behind his back, was the director/star of said movie!!! So Ryan, Jay and myself cruise over to Stageworks for our meeting. I was so nervous I thought I might crap my pants, but alas, I held it together. I wore something professional that day (instead of fat jeans, tshirt, tennis shoes) and put on makeup for my big meeting. We get there and are all smooshed on a love seat and waiting for Bruise to arrive.

Finally he walks in. Now, I don't know if he was on the nose-candy or if he was wired on Starbucks, but he was about to jump out of his skin with energy. He was nearly bouncing off the walls. Pacing back and forth. Interrupting us when we were talking and then shouting at a PA to get him a Venti blah blah blah from Starbucks ASAP. I was a little taken aback. Yet completely MESMERIZED... I was in a meeting with BRUCE WILLIS. That doesn't happen in real life.

Now for what you all want to know. Yes, he was just as attractive in person as he is on screen. He has a firm handshake and said "Hi, I'm Bruce, nice to meet you." Very polite. A little smaller as in thinner and shorter than you would imagine. I guess I'm used to guys his age having potbellies, but his was definitely flat. Washboard? Maybe, maybe not, but definitely flat. No, I didn't get a photo with him (I was being professional and cool, remember) or an autograph, but the mental image that I have in my head is good enough, right? Maybe.. maybe not.

So, long story short, we had our meeting and he left to meet up with his girlfriend at the time, who is now his wife, yes she was beautiful, and then that was the last I saw of Bruise. The movie was cancelled because shortly thereafter that meeting the economy, like, collapsed or something. Bruise pulled out of the project, Owen Wilson did as well... and then finally Camilla Belle. No money or stars, no movie. Oh well. At least I didn't have to get all that paperwork together, or crap my pants.

Things That I'm Proud Of (Even If It Ends Up Sucking)

Once upon a time (over a year ago) I worked on a little movie that I like to call 'My Baby.' I refer to it the way I do because this was the first project where I was in charge of EVERY background actor. Big responsibility. Well I just learned that 'My Baby' will be released in September 2009 and there is now a trailer available. Please watch and take note of how wonderful the extras look. (And before you ask, YES, I met Jesse Metcalfe, Michael Douglas and Amber Tamblyn. Yes, they were all nice. And no I don't have photos with them. I try to seem cool and uninterested on set, when really I'm about to have heart failure.)

This is a photo of myself on set the first day of filming. I was very excited!

Shows That NEVER Get Old

Last night as I was sitting on my couch playing Solitaire, I noticed that an Oldie but Goodie was about to come on one of the movie channels. Coyote Ugly!!!!

What better could lull a girl off to sleep than the fairytale story of a young girl moving to the Big Apple with hopes of making it big?

Sidestory: I remember when this movie came out. I LOVED it. I wanted to be one of those girls when I got to college (I had just graduated high school when this came out and I just KNEW that I could do it. I mean I was the captain of the SILVER SPURS DAMNIT!!!) So I practiced my "Devil Went Down To Georgia" dance in my dresser mirror before going off to college and joining the BCM (Baptist Collegiate Ministry. They don't even BELIEVE in dancing. Bleh.) and therefore my slutty dream went out the window. Good thing that "Can't Fight the Moonlight" always takes me back.

So as I was watching last night, there are a few things that I noticed that I hadn't before. First of all, this is clearly a show that came out before Tyra Banks "retired," went psychotic, and decided she wanted to become a mini-Oprah. She was fun, thin, and really hot. Crazy how 9 years can change a person.

There are so many interesting things going on in this movie, I feel compelled to discuss something that is very NOT interesting. Even in the slightest. Her name is Piper Perabo. She could be the worst actress since Tori Spelling. Seriously, how did she get that role and more importantly what else has she done except Cheaper By The Dozen 1 & 2?

Also this is the first appearance on the big screen, to my knowledge, of Sweet Dee from "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia:"

Sweet Dee here is the "bidding customer" who is trying desperately to win a date with "Mr. O'Donnell" at the bar. I love Sweet Dee and am so glad to see that she had such a great start in such a critically acclaimed role.

I also feel as though I should mention a trip taken to the Coyote Ugly in Las Vegas, but I think that is another story for another day. However, I will leave you with this photo as a preview and hopefully it will sum up everything I could mention, therefore saving us all a lot of typing and/or reading.
